Welcome to Manapouri - Fiordland (NZ) Situated 20 km's from Te Anau lies Manapouri nestled against the shores of Lake Manapouri and the banks of the Waiau River. Manapouri has a pop. of 300 people, and provides a General Store which contains a cafe & postal services, Garage, a Hair Dresser, Hotel & restaurant and variety of accommodation. The Lake is the second deepest in New Zealand at 444 feet and contains 33 small islands, it is known to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, framed by the Cathedral mountain range and edged in native bush. Another claim to fame for the area is 'Pearl Harbour' on the edge of the Waiau river, this is the departure point for activities in Doubtful Sound and the West Arm Power Station. Visitors come for a drive just to have their photo's taken with the sign 'Pearl Harbour'. Across the Waiau river lies the Manapouri Track which provides a variety of options for walkers from the 4 hr walk around Circle Track which provides stunning views of the Lake, to overnight hikes to the Back Valley or Hope Arm hut. Camping only at Snow White Clearings or for the adventurous looking for a challenging 3 - 4 day walk off the beaton track is Mt Titaroa, with it's limestone mountain top providing views to Stewart Island and magnificent limestone formations which provides the impression of an artist scattering the landscape with sculptures. Access to these walks on the Manapouri Track is by row boat hire or River water Taxi crossings which depart regularly. Another great activity is the trout fishing, Fly / Spinning for the experienced and trolling for first time fishermen or families. This is a great way to enjoy the beauty of Lake Manapouri and the Waiau river. If you feel like lazing in the sun, Lake Manapouri has a wonderful long stretch of beach edging the Lake shoreline, and the only sandy beach to be found in Fiordland accessible by vehicle. Manapouri is the ideal location for those looking
for a peaceful relaxed holiday, but still accessible to all Fiordland
activities without being in the centre of the “Tourism area”. Regards Mike Click here for all enquiries
